Tourist Attractions & Activities

Lots of fun for everyone in Roquetas de Mar.

Shopping & Dining:

On the main street you will find a good selection of Bars, Restaurants, Cafes, Shops and a few hidden away Nightclubs. A fun street train runs frequently around the resort. At one side there is a children’s fun park. In addition to the Aquarium, the Mario Water Park, the historic bullring, the Theatre Auditorium, cinemas, museum, and boat trips there are plenty of other things to do.

All along the Spanish coastline and in the inland villages there are frequent celebrations to honour various patron saints, and Roquetas is no exception. You may be lucky enough to experience one of the many festivals it has throughout to year the year.

The Grand Plaza shopping complex (15 min taxi / bus away) is well worth a visit and boost many famous stores; Zara, Guess, Jack Jones, Pull & Bear & Primark to name a few Plus food restaurants including an American diner, Tapas places, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King & McDonalds.

Beaches:

The Beach area nearest to Pueblo Andaluz is called Playa Serena and it has won the Blue Flag Awards for facilities and cleanliness. Sun-loungers and parasols are available for hire along the beautiful sand and fine shingle beach, with palm trees, play areas, toilets, and life guard points.

If you’re in need of refreshment there are plenty of cafés, bars (chiringuito) and ice cream parlours. You can walk or cycle (thanks to the newly added cycle lane) along the tiled promenade right to the port and beyond.

For thrill seekers there are water sports activities for hire, including: jet skis, pedlos, wind surfing and speed boats. There is also a naturist beach nearby for those who like to get back to nature (to the right facing the beach, past the new development, towards Parc Natural).

Golf Courses:

Playa Serena Golf course is a 4 minute walk from the front of the Pueblo Andaluz complex to your left. It is an 18 hole course with generous fairways and lots of lakes. You will possibly need to take your handicap certificate.

Golf La Envia is up in the mountains behind the resort approximately 20 minutes by car (or taxi) and is definitely worth the visit for the spectacular view to the coast. You will definitely need a buggy here! After or before your game, you can purchase a snack or meal and enjoy the beautiful views from their veranda.

Almerimar golf course is another excellent course, just a 25 minute drive along the coast next to the Roquetas del Mar resort.

Alboran golf course lays in a beautiful landscape, and is a 45 minute drive away.

Almeria City:

The city of Almeria is just begging to be explored, with splendid sightseeing and shopping, monuments, museums and art galleries, tapas bars, restaurants, clubs or a simple stroll along the seafront promenade.

An historical city with a modern feel, Almeria City has something for everyone and makes an ideal day trip destination.

The main city attractions, and must do places to visit, are:

  • the old quarter of the city
  • the ancient Alcazaba fortress
  • the City Cathedral
  • the amazing fresh food & fish market

Such a beautiful and fascinating city, a single day trip to Almeria will undoubtedly be the first of many!

Nature:

Roquetas is well placed for nature reserves, with Punta Entinas Sabinar Natural Park only a 15 minute walk from the complex; where rock roses, wild thyme and juniper cover the dunes, and herons, flamingos and avocets nest in the lakes and wetlands. There’s more birdwatching, as well as mountain hikes, at Cabo de Gata Natural Park, only an hour or so drive away.

Local Film Trivia:

Film buffs will be interested in the areas involvement with the silver screen. The Tabernas Desert, just to the North of Almeria city is the only registered desert area in Europe and is famous for its film locations.

More than 400 films having been shot in a 30Km radius. Including—(‘Cleopatra'(1963) the winner of seven Oscars ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ (1962) ‘Conan the Barbarian’ (1981), Clint Eastwood ‘A Fistful of Dollars’(1964) ‘For A few Dollars More’(1965) ‘The Good, The Bad & The Ugly’(1966). ‘Indiana Jones’ (1989) ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ (1989). As displayed at Mini Hollywood and Oasis Park attractions… and more recently the Sky Atlantic hit shows Penny Dreadful and the internationally renound epic Game of Thrones.

Transport:

There is a bus stop just past Hotel Best Roquetas and outside Hotel Roc Golf Trinidad, with a regular bus service to neighbouring Aguadulce, Roquetas old town, Grand Plaza Shopping centre & Almeria.

For those who prefer, there are several car hire companies, and excursions by coach to Granada and Mojacar can be booked through Pepe Tours.

A Bike Hire Shop is located close to Lilly’s Bar – The new cycle lane along the flat promenade goes for miles.
